Bitdefender GravityZone Packages Compared: Which Tier Fits?
In short: Bitdefender GravityZone packages build on one agent and one console. Business Security covers prevention, Premium adds HyperDetect, cloud sandboxing and Exchange protection, and Enterprise adds EDR and threat hunting. Defense XDR bundles identity, network and Microsoft 365 sensors. Your operating system mix and who will watch the alerts decide the tier.
Which Bitdefender GravityZone packages exist in 2026?
As of 19 October 2026, Bitdefender's package menu and official comparison page list five endpoint packages. The small business tab shows GravityZone Small Business Security, Business Security and Business Security Premium; the medium-to-large business tab shows Business Security Premium, Business Security Enterprise and GravityZone Defense XDR, presented as "Enterprise + XDR". On the services side there are Bitdefender MDR and MDR PLUS.
All packages share one agent (Bitdefender Endpoint Security Tools, BEST) and one console (GravityZone Control Center). Small Business Security, Business Security and Premium are sold online for 1 to 100 devices, while the Enterprise and Defense XDR pages offer a trial and a contact route instead of online checkout. You will find the full brand portfolio on our Bitdefender solutions page.

Which security layers change between GravityZone tiers?
The tiers grow from prevention towards detection and response. The table is compiled from Bitdefender's comparison page and its "Security features" support article; "Add-on" means a separate licence.
| Layer | Small Business Security | Business Security | Premium | Enterprise | Defense XDR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Antimalware, Advanced Anti-Exploit, Ransomware Mitigation | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Fileless Attack Protection | Yes | Not ticked* | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Network Attack Defense and Risk Management | Add-on | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Web access control and Device Control | Add-on | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| HyperDetect and Sandbox Analyzer (cloud) | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Security for Exchange and Central Scan | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| EDR: cross-endpoint correlation, threat hunting | No | No | Prevention events only | Yes | Yes |
| XDR sensors: identity, network, Microsoft 365 | No | No | No | Separate licence per sensor | Included |
| PHASR (dynamic attack surface reduction) | No | No | No | Add-on | Add-on |
| Patch Management, Full Disk Encryption | Add-on | Add-on | Add-on | Add-on | Add-on |
*Bitdefender's comparison table and its "Security features" article tick Fileless Attack Protection for Small Business Security and Premium but not for Business Security. Confirm this row with the vendor when you request a quote.
When should you move to Enterprise and who benefits from EDR?
Enterprise makes sense when you have an IT or security team that will investigate and respond to incidents. GravityZone Business Security Enterprise adds cross-endpoint detection and visualisation, one-click remediation, threat hunting, Anomaly Defense and raw event telemetry (Security Telemetry) on top of every Premium layer.
Extended EDR data retention and PHASR can be added to Enterprise; neither is listed for Business Security or Premium. We explain how PHASR narrows the abuse of legitimate tools such as PowerShell in our guide to reducing the endpoint attack surface with GravityZone.
EDR raises alerts but does not decide for you: if nobody reviews the console regularly, a higher tier alone will not improve your protection. For the distinction between the three concepts, read our article on EDR vs XDR vs MDR.
When do you need Defense XDR or MDR?
Defense XDR is the right step when attacks are likely to start with an identity or a mailbox rather than a laptop. According to Bitdefender's documentation, the bundle includes the Active Directory, Azure AD (Microsoft Entra ID), Microsoft Intune, Office 365 (Microsoft 365), Google Workspace and network sensors with no extra add-ons; cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and Atlassian sensors are bought separately.
The alternative is to add only the sensors you need to Enterprise; both purchase routes are summarised on our GravityZone XDR page. To tighten baseline account security in Microsoft 365 first, use our Microsoft 365 security settings checklist.
Bitdefender MDR is a service: it includes GravityZone Business Security Enterprise as the underlying platform, and Bitdefender's SOCs in North America, Romania and Singapore monitor incidents around the clock, including nights and weekends. MDR PLUS adds dark web monitoring and a dedicated security account manager.
Why does the tier gap shrink in macOS and Linux fleets?
Several of the layers that separate the higher tiers run only on Windows. Bitdefender's "Features by endpoint type" article (last modified 7 October 2026) shows the following:
| Layer | Windows workstation | Windows server | Linux server | macOS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HyperDetect | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Sandbox Analyzer | Yes | Yes | Manual submission only | No |
| Fileless Attack Protection | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Ransomware Mitigation and firewall | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Device Control and Full Disk Encryption | Yes | Yes | No | Yes |
| EDR | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Risk Management | Yes | Yes | Yes | macOS 12 and later |
In an office where most laptops are Macs, much of what you pay extra for in Premium goes unused; if you need detection and response visibility, Enterprise is the more consistent step because its EDR also runs on macOS.
Which add-ons are licensed separately?
Patch Management, Full Disk Encryption, Extended Email Security, Security for Mobile and Integrity Monitoring are added to any main package with a separate licence. Choosing add-ons often reduces more risk than upgrading the tier, because unpatched software and unencrypted laptops stay exposed whichever package you run.
| Add-on | What it does | When it is a priority |
|---|---|---|
| Patch Management | Deploys Windows, macOS, Linux and third-party application patches from the same agent and console; an endpoint with the Relay role can act as a patch caching server. | Patching is manual or irregular |
| Full Disk Encryption | Centrally manages BitLocker on Windows and FileVault on macOS, stores recovery keys in the console and enforces pre-boot authentication. | Laptops leave the office |
| Extended Email Security | Combines gateway (MX) and API-based mailbox protection and integrates with Microsoft 365 through its API. | Phishing and business email compromise (BEC) risk is high |
| Security for Mobile | Covers iOS, Android and ChromeOS devices. | Staff reach company data from phones |
A current data point on patching: Verizon's 2026 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) finds that 31% of breaches now start with software vulnerabilities, overtaking stolen passwords as the top entry route. NIST SP 800-40 Rev. 4 likewise frames patching as preventive maintenance and a cost of doing business. See our GravityZone Patch Management page for the patching scope and our GravityZone Email Security page for the email layer.
Which package fits your company profile?
The right package depends less on headcount than on your operating system mix, email platform and the people available to watch alerts:
| Company profile | Starting package | Consider adding |
|---|---|---|
| Small office without IT staff, mostly Windows, email in Microsoft 365 | Business Security | Patch Management, Extended Email Security |
| Team running on-premises Exchange or virtual desktops, high targeted phishing risk (finance, legal) | Premium | Patch Management, Full Disk Encryption |
| Mac-heavy, mobile laptop fleet | Business Security; Enterprise if visibility is needed | Full Disk Encryption, Patch Management |
| Organisation with an IT or security team that investigates incidents | Enterprise | EDR data retention, PHASR |
| Account takeover in Active Directory, Entra ID and Microsoft 365 is the main concern | Defense XDR | Cloud sensor (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) |
| Wants EDR-level protection but has no staff for continuous monitoring | MDR or MDR PLUS | Patch Management, Full Disk Encryption |
Endpoint security is only one layer of an office; our SMB office IT infrastructure guide shows how to plan it together with the firewall, email, Wi-Fi and phone system.

What should you prepare before requesting a quote?
Settle the inventory first and the operating model second:
- Device inventory: count Windows, macOS and Linux systems, servers and virtual machines separately; Bitdefender's comparison page counts Linux systems as servers.
- Email platform: with on-premises Exchange, look at Premium; with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, look at Extended Email Security or Defense XDR.
- Console model: XDR and Risk Management run only in the GravityZone cloud console, application whitelisting only in the on-premises console.
- Incident monitoring: write down who will review alerts and when; if the answer is "nobody", consider MDR instead of Enterprise.
- Add-ons: list patching, disk encryption, mobile and email needs separately from the package.
- Pilot: Bitdefender offers a one-month trial of Premium and Enterprise; test policies and exclusions on a small group before rolling out.
- Total cost: compare device count × package × term (1, 2 or 3 years for online purchases), add-ons, services (MDR) and deployment and management effort in one table.

FAQ
Can Small Business Security reach the Business Security level with add-ons?
Largely, yes. Bitdefender offers the "Web Access and Device Control" and "Network Attack Defense and Risk Management" add-ons for Small Business Security only; in Business Security those features are already included. If you need both, compare the cost with Business Security and confirm the Fileless Attack Protection row in the quote.
Does upgrading to Premium make sense for a Mac-heavy office?
Usually not. According to Bitdefender's documentation, HyperDetect, Sandbox Analyzer and Fileless Attack Protection, the layers that set Premium apart, do not run on macOS. In a Mac fleet the steps that add value are Full Disk Encryption (FileVault management), Patch Management and, if you need visibility, Enterprise for EDR that also runs on macOS.
Defense XDR or individual sensors on top of Enterprise?
If you need all three of the identity, Microsoft 365 and network sensors, Defense XDR consolidates licensing into a single key. If only one area matters, for example network traffic or cloud accounts, adding that sensor to Enterprise is the narrower, more targeted route. Bitdefender officially offers both options.
Do we need a separate Enterprise licence if we buy MDR?
No. According to Bitdefender, the MDR service includes GravityZone Business Security Enterprise as its underlying platform, so the agent and console come with the service. Identity and network sensors are licensed separately with MDR, while the documentation lists them as included in the MXDR option. Patch Management and disk encryption remain add-ons.
Which console model supports application whitelisting and XDR?
They run on different models. According to Bitdefender's documentation, Application Control (whitelisting) is available only in the on-premises GravityZone console, while XDR and Risk Management are available only in the GravityZone cloud console. If you need both, decide which matters more before you choose the console model.
Do we still need Extended Email Security if we use Microsoft 365?
It depends on the email protection already in your Microsoft 365 plan. Extended Email Security combines gateway and API-based protection and connects to Microsoft 365 through its API. We cover plan differences in our Microsoft 365 Business plans article; to review the overlap together, contact us.
Conclusion
- Business Security covers prevention for most small offices; Small Business Security sells some of those layers as add-ons.
- Premium makes sense for Windows-centric organisations running Exchange or virtual desktops; its extra layers do not run on macOS.
- Choose Enterprise if a team will watch EDR alerts, and MDR if no such team exists.
- Patch Management and Full Disk Encryption are separate licences in every tier and often come before a tier upgrade.
We can review your inventory, email platform and monitoring capacity and propose a matching package and add-on set.
